Stephanie Kinsey, DDS, owner and founder of Palencia Dental in St. Augustine, recently participated in a golf team that donated $1,000 as a Par Sponsor to benefit JA Boy$ part of the Junior Achievement® of North Florida program. JA Boy$ is dedicated to increasing knowledge and building skills in financial literacy, career preparation, and entrepreneurship within an all-male setting. The golf event with Dr. Kinsey’s team of six participants along with numerous other groups from northeast Florida was held on April 23rd, 2018 at Topgolf Jacksonville, a popular public golf venue for the whole family.
JA Boy$ inspires boys and young men starting in kindergarten through sixth grade to gain a deeper understanding of finances and how personal choices impact financial growth in order to find a financially stable future. As a learning environment separate from a classroom, JA Boy$ has been found to better connect with young boys through specialized and entertaining education. The core focus of the program is eliminating any complications that could weaken a boy’s future stability, such as poor grades, low reading comprehension, and a general lack of discipline not uncommon among many youths of today.
The program depends on volunteers and charitable participants. Mentors from a variety of careers and lifestyles team up with JA Boy$ to help share success stories and good life practices with young boys. Dr. Kinsey’s husband is Treve Kinsey, the Vice President of Transworld Business Brokers and chairman of the annual event for Junior Achievement. He acts as a key volunteer and mentor for boys while helping to serve as an influential factor in developing young males who need a father figure in their lives. Of course, donators like Stephanie Kinsey, DDS and Palencia Dental play a big role in supporting Junior Achievement of North Florida.
Dr. Kinsey was quoted as noting that young boys usually require “symbols, abstractions, diagrams, pictures, and moving objects” to retain new knowledge. She also mentioned that boys mature slower than girls, which can put them behind in traditional classroom settings. JA Boy$ helps offset this difference by providing boys with unique educational opportunities focused on financial management and understanding.
