What Juvéderm Can Do
Juvéderm is a very flexible injectable filler. It can be used to address many common signs of facial aging, such as:
- Thin lips
- Parenthesis lines
- Marionette lines
- Sunken cheeks
Full, luscious lips are associated with youth and vigor, in part because our lips tend to thin as we get older. Lip augmentation can help people who have seen their lips thin or who never developed voluptuous lips.
Parenthesis lines are also called nasolabial folds because they run from the corners of your nose and skirt around your lips like a pair of parentheses. Juvéderm can fill these out, reducing or eliminating them.
Marionette lines run generally from the corners of your mouth down to your chin, making you look like a marionette. Juvéderm can also erase these by filling them in.
Sunken cheeks can make you look significantly older, especially in the area called the “tear trough” right under your eyes. This forms permanent dark areas because they are sunken in and shaded. Juvéderm can fill these out to make you look more youthful and energetic.
How Juvéderm Works
Juvéderm is an injectable filler made from hyaluronic acid, a moisturizer found naturally in your body, such as in your joints and eyes. The hyaluronic acid is cultured from bacteria so there’s no risk of animal allergies, as happened with some older injectables.
These injections just take a few minutes, so it’s easy to get them done on your lunch hour, or even connected to your normal dental appointment. After the injection, there might be a little swelling or redness at the injection site, but this passes within a few days, and you’ll see your final results.
Since hyaluronic acid is a natural compound, your body begins to break it down almost right away. However, since hyaluronic acid is a moisturizer, it collects water to help it maintain its volume. This means that the results from Juvéderm last longer than previous injectables.
How Long Does It Last?
Juvéderm is a very long-lasting injectable, but the length of results depends on where it is injected. For less dynamic locations like the cheeks, it can last from six months to a year.
For more dynamic locations like the lips, the results might diminish in as little as three months.
However, it is always safe to touch-up Juvéderm treatments, so we can maintain the results indefinitely if you want.
